Why did you become an instructor?

After I attended my first yoga class in 2001, I immediately fell in love with the peacefulness, balance & mental and physical strength found through vinyasa yoga by the moving meditation.  I was hooked from that point on & knew that I wanted to teach.  After having 3 boys and then sending our youngest one off to kindergarten I went for my 200 hour RYT certification in 2013. Since, then I have been so lucky that I get to share my passion for yoga as a career.  

What motivates you to help others?

I am motivated to help others because I want everyone to feel good about themselves and their bodies.  I lead a very active lifestyle and fitness has been a huge part of my life. I truly believe that when we feel good about ourselves, we treat others better.  My motivation is to help people feel less mentally & physically stuck/tight.  Through a mindful, playful and sometimes challenging yoga practice, the intention is feel more open in heart and mind…while feeling stronger and more energized!!

 

Favorite treat/cheat meal?

Favorite treat - apple crisp and vanilla ice cream!

Favorite cheat meal - spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread and a garozzo's type salad 

What is your athletic background?

I grew up dancing from when I was second grade until college. Dance was full time for me, I even taught while in high school .  I spent a couple years playing basketball and running track, but my main focus was dance.  I always thought that I would return to teaching dance teacher as an adult (with own my kids as students), but having all boys who want nothing to do with dance I lost that thought.  Yoga filled that void perfectly!!  

What is your morning routine?

I usually get up around 7:00am to either teach a class or take a class.  After class, I enjoy either a smoothie or egg & avacodo (sourdough) toast.   

 

What is your favorite hobby?

Anything outside!!!  I absolutely love practicing yoga outside.  I also love hiking, running, biking, golfing (even though I am not so good at it -ugh!), reading and walking our dog with my boys.

Any advice to someone who is just getting started?

I tell people who are just starting yoga, be kind to yourself….yoga is a practice! We all start at the beginning and we get better with the willingness to allow ourselves to commit with patience & focus to grow with the practice.   Yoga can be hard, especially when just getting started.  People who say they can’t do yoga because they are not flexible are the people who NEED to come to yoga.
